https://soundcloud.com/catchthethrone

There are some major artists creating GoT-related songs:
Snoop Dogg
Anthrax
Method Man

Most of the lyrics are very tightly related to the houses or locations. Some of the music will be very familiar to people that watch the HBO series.

You'll find tracks with names like:
Lannister's Anthem (by Snoop Dogg)
The Oath (a song about the Night's Watch oath by Method Man)
Soror Irrumator (by Anthrax)
Arya's Prayer
King Slayer
Among The Crows

I recently did an interview with App Review Central. One of the questions they asked revolved around tips for novice players. We thought that content might be a good discussion starter here. Let's keep this discussion about "basic" tips without giving away too many specifics. If you'd like to discuss specific strategies or more advanced tips, please do that in another topic.

Trouble With Robots: Strategies & Tips For Early Game

Use Plenty Of Healing: Early on, you will need to heal your guys a lot. Try using both the Centaur Shamen AND the basic Heal cards together. Play your Centaur Shamen when your guys are moderately hurt. Wait until you have some troops in the red to play the Heal.

Choose 1 Direct Damage Card: Lightning Strike is easier to use. Fireball is effective against groupings of range attackers such as the People Management Unit. You don’t need both (at least not yet).

Experiment With Attack Enhancers: Try different combinations of range attackers with Tactician or melee attackers with Angry Mob. This will help you learn what is good for which situations.

General: Don’t waste the precious seconds of any card that does something for a limited time. For example, if you have an Angry Mob, wait until your melee attackers are in close combat before you play it. The bonus only lasts for 20 seconds. If you play it 4 seconds too early, you’ve wasted a fifth of the bonus.

TradingCardGames.com has posted a review of TWR.

It is actually one of the best writeups about the game available to prospective players. It details all the main parts of the game, so you can get a great idea of what the game is like if you haven't yet played. Though, the game is free to download, so why don't you just play it?

Here's an excerpt from the review...

"The campaign overall is incredibly enjoyable – it’s actually really funny, as the dialogue between characters turns out to be very witty and well written. There are a lot of puns and gags that could easily fall on the side of cheesy but actually don’t, and instead made me laugh out loud a number of times. It’s rare to find genuine humor that doesn’t fall flat in a strategy game of this kind so it was a nice surprise to encounter it here. There is also enough variety in the enemies you face and the cards you unlock to remain consistently interested in the unfolding strategies available to you as you progress through the game."

I have to assume that a bunch of TWR players have played (or still play) M:TG. I'm curious what formats you play. Do you play casually, or are you a seasoned tournament competitor?

I started around 1998, when my summer roommate (who was quite a good player) taught me. I remember taking his red Sligh deck to a local tourney and being too afraid to use the sideboard at all.

That hooked me, and I think my first real deck was a white weenie with Empyrial Armor, shadow attackers, and Cataclysm as the core. It had a bunch of protection from red and black and En-Kor guys to redirect damage.

I played for many years after that. I played in a lot of local tourneys and PTQs at the time, but over the years of my play, I transitioned to more casual play.

I haven't seriously bought cards for 10 years or so, but I keep toying of getting back in.

What's your M:TG story?

I'm curious who here plays (or has played) the Pokémon Trading Card Game. I played it when it first came out. I was pretty heavy into it for the first few sets. Those were some great memories, as it was like the wild west at local tournaments and such.

I also played through the GameBoy game at the time.

I quit playing it for MANY years, and I got back into it when SP was starting to get ultra popular. It took a while to adjust, but I ended up teaming up with some strong players and getting back into "shape" fairly nicely.

My peak achievement with the game was winning Minnesota states with a Gyarados deck by beating one of the undisputed best players in the world. That will always be a proud moment.

I'm wondering what your involvement with Pokémon is/was. Did you just collect cards? Did you play casually with friends? Did you compete at Worlds?

There's a new review of Trouble With Robots up at GAMERamble.

They have assigned TWR a general score of 8.3 (out of 10), but the "gameplay" metric was 9/10.

http://gameramble.com/Trouble-With-Robots-Android-Review

Here's a little excerpt...

"The touch controls are also very responsive and I never had any trouble selecting cards or casting spells.

Don’t let the fact that you cannot control your units directly fool you into thinking that Trouble With Robots is a simple game. The interface might be streamlined, but by removing all the clutter the game allows you to focus on what is important instead of drowning in the small details. Since some of the cards are only available on the higher difficulty settings the game has plenty of replay value and also features 54 achievements to aim for."
